We left Wolfe Island for the open waters of Lake Ontario this morning around 7:00 a.m. We are aiming for Port Dalhousie, which is just west of the Welland Canal and 120 nm away from Wolfe Island as the crow flies. The wind started as a southwesterly, so we weren't able to sail straight toward Dalhousie. Instead, we sailed south across the lake almost straight for Rochester, until around 11:00 p.m. when the wind clocked to a southerly as we had been hoping, allowing us to point right at Dalhousie, which is still 60-odd miles away. As our first taste of great lakes sailing today was it was spectacular. The sea state was calm all day, but we only had to switch on the engine twice. For most of the day we sailed comfortably at 7 knots, which let us cover a lot of ground.

Today was a good day for another reason too. Ever since Quebec, I have been checking my email daily, crossing my fingers waiting for my photos. In Quebec, I dropped off 10 rolls of film to be developed and scanned, and was told it would take a week and a half. I started checking my inbox that very day, hoping they would be early. Today, exactly a week and a half later, they finally arrived! I'll start adding a few of them to each post from here on out.
