Today we woke up late. Our mission in Detroit was to meet some new crew members, but they hadn't arrived yet so we had time to kill. After a slow morning, we decided to head into Detroit properly. A 30-minute Uber left us at the Guardian Building, which was stunning in its stonework, but so depressingly inhabited by only five or six little kiosks that it's hard not to wonder if it wouldn't be better off just being closed or empty. Leaving the Guardian Building, we headed for a People Mover station that one of Martha's friends had decorated.
The People Mover is Detroit's inner-city train. There is only a single loop and a modest number of trains, but it's free, clean, and above ground, which made it an excellent way to see the city. The station was very pretty, comprised of colorful handmade tiles, and it was where we got on the People Mover and headed over to Greektown for lunch. Greek food is a favorite of mine, so lunch was a treat. Afterwards I headed into the city center to get myself some fresh socks and shoes. Successful, Fred, Martha, and I again clambered into an Uber and went back to the boat, where I puttered around before settling in for an early night.
