10/2/26: Fun but Kind of Useless

Today was our last lock before entering Lake Ontario(Lake America). We left early from our sweet little anchorage to make sure we made it to our 10:00 reservation, so we once again caught a nice view of the sunrise as we traveled upriver. The islands here look much different from any I know, but I hadn't really been able to pinpoint why that was until Fred pointed out that these are the only islands he has ever seen covered entirely in deciduous trees. It gives them a very round and dense appearance.
When we got to the Iroquois Lock, we were surprised to see that the control dam next to it was open. Apparently the lock and dam are for regulating the flow of the river, and it's been dry, so there's no need to hold back the flow. We still had to wait our turn to enter the lock, but once we were in, we didn't even have to tie up; the upriver gates opened immediately with no change in water height, and we continued on our journey. We stopped for the night in an energetic little town called Brockville, where we had a nice pub dinner and then took a walk down Canada's first and oldest railway tunnel.
