10/3/26: Treadmaster
I started today by getting a haircut. This is my second haircut of the trip with my first being a buzzcut so my hair was already pretty short. But the barber shop I went to was absolutely charming. Wilkins only there had been four people in line both times I walked by yesterday to see if I could get in. When I came back this morning two minutes after the shop opened I was fourth in line. This morning I waited, each haircut taking almost exactly 15 minutes. When it was my turn I point at a 1950's poster of "stylish modern haircuts" for what I wanted, did my best to talk sports for 15 minutes and walked out thoroughly entertained and feeling good about my new haircut.
After that it was a work day. We needed to set ourselves up for the leg from Brockville to Detroit, so we tackled all the standard chores: filling the water tanks, scrubbing the decks, changing the engine oil, and working through the rest of the maintenance checklist. We also added an extra project that turned out to be pretty fun: covering the cockpit sole and companionway steps in Treadmaster. Treadmaster is a non-skid rubber decking that we cut to shape and glued to the deck. It has the added bonus of covering up some rusty spots on the deck, and all in all it spruced up the deck nicely. We ended the night with roast chicken and mashed potatoes, which was quite the treat.
