Today our engine behaved, and we got to sail for the most part anyways. The morning had some bigger waves, but they eventually flattened out and the sailing was quick and comfortable. We sailed under the lee of Anticosti Island to get out of the waves further, which unintentionally made us the perfect refuge for a few small land birds who were blown out to sea. There were a couple throughout the morning that landed and took off again, but one stayed with us: a small green bird that looked to be the same species as a bird that landed on the boat when it was going to Greenland in 2023. In 2023 we lovingly named the bird Stogey, and he lived with us for a handful of days before sadly passing away. Motivated by our failure to get Stogey to shore safely, we decided to make it our mission to take care of this bird and get it ashore. It had a funny habit of walking up to the reflective surfaces of the boat and staring at them, so assuming it was staring at itself, we named the bird Narcissus.

Narcissus rode with us in comfort, hiding in the doghouse to keep out of the rain before safely disembarking as we got close to land again at Rocher à la Poire. This was an island famous for its sea stacks, which are narrow pillars of rock that rise out of the sea and it was our stopping point for the day. We went ashore and followed a path that cut through the middle of the island and then looped around the beach. The sea stacks ended up being considerably more impressive than I expected, with a pretty coating of yellow lichen on top of them all, and the walk around the beach was pleasant too, with an extremely vivid rainbow and a breathtaking sunset. Our beach path was cut off by the tide at the very end, so we had to do a small bit of bushwhacking before getting back to the dinghy and having some Dark 'n Stormys in celebration of Nathan's birthday before calling it a night.
