There were three big tasks for today: go to the hardware store, say goodbye to Nathan, and greet Fred and Martha. The first task was the hardware store. Nathan's parents had driven up to Quebec, which meant that for the morning we had access to a car. What we needed from the hardware store was somewhat grim: a poop bucket. The Great Lakes are very strict about how blackwater (human waste) is treated, and Pelagic is not up to the standards. With the time we have left, we needed to switch out our head for something simple, easy, and that allows us to keep all our waste in an external holding tank (barrel). The solution: a poop bucket, spray-painted gold to retrieve some dignity. So we took off to the hardware store to get everything we needed.

Having successfully acquired everything we returned to the boat, where it was time to say goodbye to Nathan. Nathan was the last member of the crew that had been on the boat from the beginning. He was instrumental in many of the day-to-day operations on the boat and as good a person to put your trust in as anyone on the boat. He was also very good company; a connoisseur of dry humor and an excellent cook, especially of breakfast. His departure had a noticeable impact on the environment and energy on the boat similar to Chuck and Tor's where he was a catalyst for many of the best adventure of the trip like our hike up the water fall and into the bear.

Nathan's goodbye was accompanied by the arrival of Fred and Martha, which promised that the good meals and dependable hands would live on aboard Pelagic.
