10/9/26: We'll Go Without

Today was our last day before getting going through the Welland Canal. There were a few small tasks left: filling water and fixing our steaming light, but that was it. Filling the water tanks went smoothly, but replacing the steaming light offered considerably more resistance. There are two halves to the fixture housing that are supposed to pull apart, but when the housing was damaged previously, the previous person who fixed it did so with a lot of "I won't be the next one to do this" and glue. As a result, the two halves refused to separate, even with a fair bit of persuasion from screwdrivers and box-cutter blades.
Not wanting to destroy the entire fixture—which also houses the deck light—I left the steaming light nonfunctional. It makes us somewhat less visible to big commercial traffic, which is a concern, but we still have our running nav lights and the deck flood, which is far brighter than the steaming light anyway. Having successfully checked at least one task off the list, and all around having had a relaxed day with a few non-boat successes to boot, we treated ourselves to an excellent Mexican dinner.
