8/5/26: Fog

Today we woke up and it was foggy, and it stayed foggy. It seems to be a bit of a trend for Labrador and as Skip said: "maybe the reason not that many people come here." Dede let me sleep in extra this morning after last night's engine debacle by sitting the first half of our watch by himself. I was able to pay it forward almost immediately by sitting some extra time afterwards to let Helene and Nathan sleep in, and everyone seems better off for having the extra sleep. Morale, however, partially because of the fog, was still quite low. We've also sailed directly into the Labrador Current, which is a steady two knots against us, so for at least myself, and I think the rest of the crew, the pace we're now making is also dragging down the mood a bit. For a brief pick-me-up, Nathan, Helene, Dd, and I all took bucket showers, which proved to be somewhere between invigorating and brain-freeze-inducing. I've written this entry past midnight tonight in the assurance that for tonight, unlike last night, this entry will be final. With our slow pace, we've started debating whether or not we will go all the way to Coats Island in Hudson Bay or whether we will stop in the Button Islands at the northern tip of Labrador. Either way, I hope for less fog tomorrow as I think we're in need of a pick-me-up.
